Keep Newlands Fire Station

Wellington City Council has made a decision to not renew the lease for the Newlands Fire Station and Fire and Emergency New Zealand are now consulting on whether to move the station to Johnsonville.

Newlands needs its station.

Newlands and the surrounding areas including Woodridge and Grenada Village are growing and development in these areas will increase the demand for the volunteer fire service currently sited in Newlands.

This makes the continued presence of a truly local fire station important today and into the future.

Retaining the Newlands Fire Brigade adds to resilience capability within the area. In the event of an earthquake, Newlands and its neighbouring areas could become cut off from Johnsonville.  Maintaining capability within the Newlands area is important.
