Consultation now open on the Education Act

Parliament
Thursday, November 12, 2015

Most New Zealanders, whether they have family in the compulsory school sector or not, care about education and the opportunities it offers. So I hope Ohariu people take an interest in the recently announced revamp of the 26-year-old Education Act.

Public consultation is now open online until 5pm on 14 December.

This is a rare opportunity for everyone to have a say on legislation that will help shape the future of the education system. The current law gives little guidance to schools on what educational success looks like. The minister is anxious that a redesigned education system shift the focus from administration and compliance to raising student achievement in the 21st century.

We want you to tell us what you want from the education system, so we can provide better public services to the Kiwis who use and pay for them.
