Recent Initiatives For Small and Medium Businesses

Friday, April 8, 2016

Below is a brief update on some Government initiatives that may be of interest to small and medium business owners in the Ōhāriu electorate.

Our Ultra-Fast Broadband and Rural Broadband Initiatives are transforming the way businesses operate by reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Alongside these opportunities, there are also some risks. You will know that small and medium businesses need to take steps to protect their online records just as they keep their buildings and physical assets safe. Doing so is critical for the commercial success of New Zealand’s small businesses and their ability to do business online.

The Government recently released a cyber security strategy highlighting how we are keeping small and medium businesses safe online. We have provided an easy four-step plan on how to protect your business from cyber-attacks here.

The Government has also been working hard to reduce business compliance costs so you can focus on growing your business. We understand that getting tax right and making it simple benefits everyone. Business.govt.nz has created an infographic that may help your business reduce its tax bill. I encourage you to share this with your network.

There are a number of law changes, such as Health and Safety, which will affect small and medium businesses in 2016. You can find out more about how these changes may affect you here.

If you are a small or medium business owner, I would welcome the opportunity to visit your business to hear your thoughts on these initiatives and other issues important to you. If you would like to arrange a time, please contact me at 04 478 0628 or Brett.HudsonMP@parliament.govt.nz.
