More new intiatives for small and medium businesses

Friday, June 3, 2016

Below is a brief update on some Government initiatives that may be of interest to small and medium business owners in the Ōhāriu electorate.

This Government knows how important cashflow is for small businesses and that the tax system is a key issue.  The Government has recently announced an SME-friendly tax package that will reduce compliance costs and make tax simpler for small businesses.  This can include a shift to pay-as-you-go provisional tax payments and the elimination of use-of-money interest. You can find out more and comment on the tax package proposals at Making Tax Simpler.

Statistics NZ’s Data for Business website has been updated with a new section and three new data sources, providing even more information for small businesses.  The new data covers retail trade, regional economies, and international trade with our top 50 partners.

The updated Employment Agreement Builder makes it easy for small business owners to create employment agreements online. By following the step-by-step guide, you can quickly determine what you need to include when hiring a new employee.

It is important to me that our local businesses can focus their energies on building their businesses, not navigating red tape. The Business.govt.nz Compliance Matters tool makes it easy to find all your business compliance requirements in one place.

If you are a small or medium business owner, I would welcome the opportunity to visit your business to hear your thoughts on these initiatives and other issues important to you. If you would like to arrange a time, please contact me at 04 478 0628 or Brett.HudsonMP@parliament.govt.nz.
